Jonathan Mason

I’m an ISA Board Certified Master Arborist with over 15 years of experience in urban forestry, conservation, and applied research. I offer consulting arborist services to clients navigating complex decisions in the management of their trees.

My introduction to working with trees was a landscaping job I had as a teenager in Mississippi. Later, as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Madagascar, I trained cacao farmers on tree management practices, and at Los Angeles Conservation Corps, I oversaw field crews to plant and maintain large caliper trees throughout the city.

I’ve also published peer-reviewed research on the international trade of timber at World Resources Institute, and as Director of Urban Forestry at One Tree Planted, I evaluate municipal and non-profit planting designs, advising on species palettes, planting standards, and monitoring protocols.

I started Mason Arboriculture to establish an independent consulting practice that supports clients with science-backed analysis and recommendations. By happy coincidence, it affords me more time outdoors.
